Data Analysis

Turning Data Into Information

The need to answer questions about the data to assist in decision making or reporting on activities often quickly promote GIS to one of the most valuable assets that organisation can invest in. It is estimated that 80% of data collected by organisations has a spatial component. GIS provides the tools to assist in studying complex relationships in a fast, flexible manner and the ability to combine and integrate data is the backbone of GIS.

Spatial Solutions provides analysis capabilities from the simplest to complex quantitative techniques. Simple exploratory data analysis may provide information through comparison of datasets and answer spatial questions such as "where is?", "what is near?", "what is adjacent?". More complex analysis can involve construction of models that routinely process and analyse data based on a set of adjustable criteria. As our knowledge of the world and influencing factors improve or change, criteria may be adjusted to accommodate. Route selection models are a particularly good example of this type of analysis. Model results often guide studies that result in additional data being collected and integrated into future modelling of results.
